Teen Review – Clockwork Angel

Clockwork Angel Review

Clockwork Angel is the first book in the Infernal Devices series, written by the author, Cassandra Clare. In her novel, Clare intersects the lives of Theresa Gray; “a mundane” as she is referred to in the beginning of the book, and the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. The story takes place in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, and it begins when 16-year-old Tessa Gray travels from New York to England looking for her brother, Nathaniel Gray. As she arrives in England, Tessa is kidnapped by the Dark Sides, members of a mysterious Downworld organization called the Pandemonium Club. While being held by the Dark Sisters, Tessa learns that the reason she had been kidnapped was because she possessed supernatural powers and the head of the organization wanted to claim them for himself. With nowhere else to seek protection, Tessa accepts refuge with the Shadowhunters, and makes a deal with them; they will help her find her missing brother and her true origins if she allows them to use her powers to help them.

In my opinion, this was a great book! I think that this, being the first book of the series is the best because it sets up the setting for the readers. In this book, the author also uses different literary devices like characterization, description of different settings, and chronological plot organization to describe the different points of view from the different characters, and to provide the the reader with a most vivid perspective of the setting and theme of the book. I would recommend this book to teenagers because it’s very entertaining, and it allows the reader to have a quick escape from reality to an awesome fantasy world.

Review: The Walking Dead 400 Days

WD Banner

What is it?
The Walking Dead 400 Days is a DLC for the game The Walking Dead, which can be played in pretty much every gaming platform. The DLC is a choice-based game, where your choices changes the story, but not so much in the DLC, but that doesn’t make the DLC not worth your time. The DLC has 5 different characters going through different situations in different days that span to, you guessed it, 400 Days.

What is it about?

Vince’s story takes place in day 2 of the apocalypse on a prison bus. You get to meet two other prisoners and everything goes downhill from there.

Wyatt’s story takes place 41 days in the apocalypse. He and his friend, Eddie, encounter another pair and things don’t go so well. The whole time you’re getting chased..

Russell’s story takes place 184 days in the apocalypse. He’s alone heading to Greensboro until a stranger runs into him.

Bonnie stories takes place 220 days in the apocalypse. She’s in a small group and gets chased by another but mysterious group.

Shel’s story takes place 236 & 259 day in the apocalypse. She’s in a big group in a truck stop with her younger sister, Becca. They are confronted with a decision that changes the group completely.

The main reason why I love 400 Days is because there are 5 different stories. The stories are drastically different and are refreshing. There are also little mentions, settings, and little Easter eggs that connect all the stories. It is also a great bridge between Season One of The Walking Dead to Season 2, even though the choices don’t affect Season 2. But either way, the writing and interactions with the characters are really good and realistic. It’s a short DLC, but it’s worth it.

Review: Attack on Titan (Anime)

What is it?

Attack on Titan began as a manga that started in 2009. It gained a lot of popularity in Japan. It then was made into an anime and it started airing in April 6, 2013.

What is it about?

Attack on Titan is about a boy named Eren accompanied by his adopted sister, Mikasa, and his childhood friend, Armin. They have grown together in Shiganshina. Shinganshina is protected by a wall that encompasses the whole civilization, and those walls are to hold against the Titans, who are some of the antagonists of the story. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin join the military to fight against the Titans and discover more about them and the allies that fight alongside them.

Review:
The first season of Attack on Titan has 25 episodes that are all enjoyable. Some episodes take time and develop the characters and let you know about where they come from and such, which makes you care for them and their death (any character can die in Attack on Titan) will affect you more. Other episodes are filled with action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and most episodes end in a cliffhanger that makes you watch another episode. All the characters get enough screentime so they don’t feel useless. The characters feel very human, since they aren’t super heroes. They feel scared to fight the Titans, since they know one simple mistake can get them killed. Luckily, though, some of the soldiers have seen what the Titans are capable of in their childhood – how they destroyed their homes, took away their loved ones. Those events hardened them and made those soldiers want to avenge their loved ones, but even that isn’t enough to fight the Titans. I’ve never been a big fan of anime myself, until I watched Attack on Titan.  The series has taught me how important it is to steadfastly hold on to your beliefs and values, and never lose sight of the goal in your life. It taught me that life is meaningless without the freedom we deserve from birth, and that sometimes, you have to fight for it. Because freedom and death are two sides of the same coin.

Game Review

    Super Smash Bros

by Nelo

This fighting game is a game for all people no matter who or how it’s played and here is why. There aren’t many rules that apply to Super Smash Bros. That may sound weird coming from a game but it’s true. There are a lot of different ways you can change the gameplay up. So that means you can play however you want. A match can all be based on skill or it can be played with items; there are even more ways to play it than that. This game also has a very simple control scheme compared to other games, so no one should have any difficulty learning the basics. All characters have the same control scheme, meaning that you won’t have to learn new combos or complicated moves. There is also a big roster to pick from, so there is always a character you are going to be good with. Other than having a lot of characters to pick from there are also a lot of stages to pick from, so you will never be bored from playing the same boring stage. Super Smash Bros is also one of the most popular fighting games out there. Youtube channels vgbootcamp and Clash Tournaments upload tournaments almost every day. There are also other channels that will give you tips and tricks on how to play Super Smash Bros even better. Super Smash Bros is also featured at big events like Evo and APEX. Super Smash Bros is not only a great game but a really popular game too and anyone should try it out because I know they will love it.
